Stannard, named after General George Stannard, hero of Gettysburg, is a gore town nestled against Stannard Mountain. It is the smallest and the most rural of the eight towns in the area-there are no paved roads.
Stannard Church, a restored historic building unique to the area, is frequently used for summer weddings. Across the road from the church is the town hall and that constitutes the downtown!
Quiet beauty surrounds you in Stannard and the drive up the mountain is reminiscent of a time gone by.
