Please describe your job: What do you do?

I get to look after the most amazing team. Taking care of the agency’s resourcing, recruitment, wellbeing, events and the operational side of the business.

What kind of skills do you need to be effective in your role?

Understanding, compassion, organisational skills, prioritisation, great listener, attention to detail and being a great judge of character.

How did you get where you are today?

By the 12X bus from Newhaven! LOL. Seriously, strong work ethic, an interest in business, loyalty, dedication to my role and a drive for making the world a better place one step at a time.

What do you love about your job? What sucks?

I love the people I get to work with. I smile and laugh every day and that can never be underestimated. What sucks? That’s easy; buying the milk when we run out in the office.

What kind of goals do you have? How do you measure your success?

I want to help make ThoughtShift the very best Digital Marketing Agency in Brighton and the world. I know that alongside our amazing team, we can make this a reality and we strive for it every day. I measure my success by the happiness of the team and our clients by looking at our Happiness surveys which tell us what we do well and what we need to do better.

What are your favourite tools to help you get the job done?

My trusty sloth notebook and pen!

Heather’s trusty sloth notebook and pen.

How did you get into this role and where might you go from here?

I relocated from West London 4 years ago looking for a role change and better work-life balance and ThoughtShift fit the bill. What’s amazing about ThoughtShift is I have been able to create the role I want through my objectives and progression. Having the opportunity to take my career and mould it into what makes me happy, whilst having a positive impact on the team and the business.

Do you have any advice for people who want to work for a Digital Marketing agency?

Do it! Agency life is an exciting challenge and gives you so many opportunities to work across different types of client accounts and disciplines. It can be tough, but the rewards are fantastic and there is so much to learn that you will never be bored and there are fantastic opportunities to progress.

Describe a typical day?

I get into the office nice and early and have a coffee, go through my inbox and plan my day with the tasks I need to get done that day/week and then it’s into meetings, reviewing policies, keeping updated on the current news. I’ll look at resource and what I need to do in terms of recruitment and then I will work on the next string of events that we have planned for the team.

What advice do you have for people who want to get into Digital Marketing?

If it’s a new role or job change I would recommend checking out internship programmes and see what opportunities are out there which will give you hands-on experience and an understanding of what Digital Marketing is all about. From there you can work out which channel you want to specialise in and go from there 😊

What’s the best piece of advice you have ever been given?

Believe you can and you will
